FCP 7 Bug - flashing green frames
I’ve run into a bug in FCP 7 that I haven’t found an answer too. For no apparent rhyme or reason, the playback canvas and preview screen will flash green frames during real time playback. It’s an intermittent issue. I believe it’s related to the codex I’m using, QuickTIme Pro Res, but that seems odd as well. I’m determined to figure this out. Any thoughts?
FCP 7 Bug - all the clips in a sequence take on the sequence’s name
FCP 7 has a couple bugs that have driven me mad! A specific one is where all the clips in a sequence take on the sequence’s name. They also forget how to match-back or reconnect media. This can be devastating to a long off-line sequence. I believe I’ve nailed down why this happens (thanks to my friends on Twitter). The bug occurs when you duplicated or copy/paste a sequence that starts with a freeze frame or still image. If you remove that still or freeze frame before duplicating, you will avoid the bug. Then just re-add that still to your newly duplicated sequence. Step one, though, is always backing up your work daily and making sure you have an auto-save vault.

Ever had a hard drive you can’t eject?
WhatsOpen is a MacOSX utility designed to aid you in determining what is holding your files open. There is a common OSX error when trying to eject removable media relating to files being in use. Often times your files are in use by Spotlight or some other internal system and you don’t even know what program to kill to free up the files and allow the media to eject. This utility makes that a snap. It also provides many other administrative features you may find useful.
